Services
The Library offers patrons four public use computers: two desk top computers and two laptops.
Patrons can reserve a time to use a public computer by calling 613-756-2000 or by emailing programs@madawaskavalleylibrary.ca
Computers can be booked for 30 minute sessions. If you are doing research, filling out an application or writing an online exam that may take more than 30 please advise staff when booking.
We provide free wi-fi. Patrons can access the internet with our public computers or their own personal devices. The wi-fi password is posted throughout the library.
Patrons can print, scan, and copy materials using our photocopying machine. Items can be scanned to email or a USB stick.
Documents can be emailed to programs@madawaskavalleylibrary.ca and we will print for you to pick up. The cost is $0.25 per side for black and white, or $0.50 per side for colour, for a 8.5″x11″page. For additional paper sizes, inquire at the front desk.

The Madawaska Valley has a rich local history, and we have an extensive collection of materials that allow patrons to explore the area and discover how past generations helped shape the community.
We have passes to several museums to borrow. To borrow a museum pass, your account must be in good standing. Passes allow entry for two adults and three or four “paying” children, or three adults. Please inquire at the front desk about availability. Passes are borrowed for 7 days. There is a $1 per pass per day over due fee.
As a rural library our space is limited, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have access to the widest selection available. This is why our Interlibrary Loan program exists. Patrons can fill out our ILL request form (available at the library) and allow our staff to locate books from other libraries and bring them to our very own patrons.
Our community has had a rich history when it comes to journalism. Many of our patrons like to go down memory lane by utilizing our newspaper archives. The archives on site go all the way back to the early 1980s, and we also have access to earlier newspapers located off-site.
Our used book sale is open year-round during library hours. We have a wide variety of books to choose from, including fiction, mystery, romance, sci-fi, non-fiction, and children’s books.
Book purchases are by donation: supporting the used book sale supports programming at the library.
We accept donations of gently used books in good condition. Please inquire at the front desk about dropping off donations.
If you wish to locate an item (book, DVD, etc) that is not in our collection, you may request to get it through our Interlibrary Loan Services. To do this, you may call, e-mail or fill out a form at the Madawaska Valley Public Library, giving your name, telephone number and library card number and all the pertinent information (author, title, publisher and year of publication, if known).
We will research to see if the item is available from to borrow from another library. You will be contacted if we cannot find the item. If we are able to find a copy, we will contact you when the item arrives at our library. It can take 2-4 weeks to receive a request. Most interlibrary loan items are on loan for 4 weeks, starting from the date the item arrives at the library. If you require a longer loan period, please inquire. Many lending libraries do not allow renewals.
Note:
- Books published in the last 12 months cannot be requested. Instead, recommend we purchase a copy.
- Lending libraries determine the loan period for items and what items they will loan.
- Three items can be requested and in the system at a time.
- Items will be shipped via Canada Post. Please allow at least 2-4 weeks for your item to arrive.
- There is a $5 charge for requested items that are not picked up. Lending libraries pay the postage charges for both shipping and returning the item. Do not request an item if you cannot pick it up.
- There is $1 per item per day over due fee for interlibrary loan items.
- Only patrons with accounts in good standing can request interlibrary loans. If you have over dues or fines, you will not be able to request an interlibrary loan until all items have been returned or paid.
- Visit the Library Catalogue, sign in is required
- Login to your account use the last 1 – 4 digits of your account number which is found on the front of your membership card, just below the barcode.
- If your account number is P0001000008563 you need only put in 8563.
- If your account number is P0001000000063 you need only put in the 63.
- Your password is the last 4 digits of the phone number used when your account was set up.
The catalogue can be searched by author, title, keyword or subject. Use the dropdown menu in the search bar. When you have selected an item click on the “reserve” tab and it will be reserved for you.
Staff will contact you to let you know when your order is ready for pickup.
